What’s your role at Zego and where do you sit within the organisation?

I'm a Software Engineer for the B2C side of the business.

What did you do before you worked at Zego and where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

Before Zego I worked as a Network Engineer for Vodafone Group. In the next 5 years, I see myself progressing within the engineering space.

What do you love about your job?

I love that every day is different. I love that I can be creative. I love that I'm making an impact on something, changing something for the better.

Who have you learnt the most from at Zego so far? What have you learnt from them?

Just because things are done one way, doesn’t mean it’s the right way.

What advice would you give to a Zegon on their first day?

Don’t be afraid to question things; when you’re moving fast, sometimes things aren’t done to the best quality, or maybe someone missed it. If you think something should be different, go for it.

How would your 10-year-old self react to what you do now?

Be pretty amazed honestly. Technology has always been my passion, so being able to do it day in day out is pretty great.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

I would have loved to start learning to code at an earlier age.

Tell us about your typical working day...

I get up at 7:30 most days, at the moment, I'm trying to push myself to do yoga every day!

Around 8:30 I’ll be logged on, and looking through the Jira board to see the current status of work and if there’s anything I can get involved in. If I have any unfinished work, I usually dive into that pretty soon after our team tea & coffee time at 10am every morning.

After that, we have our team stand up and the rest of my day is then filled with: code reviews, coding and meetings.

If you could entice one (famous?) person, alive or dead, to work at Zego, who would it be and why?

I’d have to say, Adam Sandler. He’s probably my favourite actor, and he seems to be a really down to earth person; clearly, lots of money hasn’t changed him.

He does what he does because he loves it, and that really resonates with me.

If you had unlimited money to start your own business, what would it be?

I’d love to open my own coffee shop if I had unlimited funds.

What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?

I love playing games and going on walks.

Where’s the next place on your travel bucket list and why?

Rome and Venice for sure. I had my holiday there planned for last May but this was postponed due to COVID. I’ve always wanted to go, so really excited to finally get a chance.

What was the last thing you read?

I read the first Harry Potter book. I’ve never been much of a reader, can’t stay focussed for long enough but I did it and was pretty impressed. I definitely need to find some time to read the rest of the series.
