COVID-19 support at Zego

In light of the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19, the work that is done by delivery drivers, van couriers and private hire drivers is not only important, but essential. At Zego, we feel proud that we can support key workers, just as they support the country through these challenging times.

We know that as a driver, you may face difficult circumstances during this time. You may find yourself unable to work for a period of time due to a number of reasons. We are here to support you through this time. As well as helping to make sure that you have insurance that meets your demands and needs, we also want to help to reduce the risk of underinsurance.

In this post, we’ll take a look at the different options we have available. Whether you carry food, parcels or passengers for your work, we have a number of support options available.

Policy downgrade

If you’re a scooter rider or private hire driver and you have a combined Social, Domestic & Pleasure (SD&P) and Hire & Reward policy with Zego, you may wish to consider temporarily downgrading your cover. If you’re not working at the moment, switching to an SD&P only option can help you save money on the cost of your insurance.

We launched our SD&P only product for private hire drivers in response to the difficulties that many drivers face when they cannot work. Instead of having to declare your car off-road and being unable to use it, our new product provides you with a cost-effective alternative to paying for cover you aren’t using.

Flexible cover options

At Zego, we don’t like admin fees. That’s why we don’t charge them. So whether you’re setting up a new policy, making changes to your existing one or even cancelling your policy, we won’t charge you any admin fees to do so.

If you currently have a fixed-term policy with Zego, you may also wish to consider switching to one of our alternative products when your policy is due for renewal. Our pay-as-you-go Hire & Reward insurance, available to scooter and car delivery drivers, helps you save on the cost of your cover when you’re not working. You’re charged just for the time that you’re working, so if you work less, you pay less.

We have also launched 7-day Private Hire insurance, which offers you all the work you need for private hire work and personal driving, but over a shorter period of time. If you’re looking to return to work, but you’re not ready to commit to a longer-term policy, our short-term policies offer you more flexibility for starting private hire work again.

For van couriers, our 30-day policies short-term cover that offers you more flexibility if you’re unsure whether you’re ready to return to work full-time. Your policy comes up for renewal every 30-days, so you have more chances to pause your cover if you need to.

14-day credit notice

Please note: Zego's 14-day credit notice option is no longer available as of 1st June 2020. We are pleased to say that we have been able to support more than 1200 customers with over £140k of credit against their renewal.

If you have a 30-day or Annual policy with Zego and you cannot work due to suspected COVID-19, we will issue you with a 14-day credit notice against the renewal of your policy. As a delivery or private hire driver, the work that you are doing is essential. If you fall ill and you are unable to work, we are here to support you.

Additionally, if you find yourself in financial difficulties during this time, you can get in touch with our team to defer your payment for 14 days. We will not charge you any fees for changing your payment date.
