New from Zego: Flexible Private Hire insurance

At Zego, we understand that the more flexible an insurance product is, the more it can adapt to your needs. By providing flexible insurance products, we can offer cover that suits you, however you choose to work.

Our delivery insurance has always been a great example of this. Whether a driver works 5 or 50 hours per week, we have been able to provide cover that fits their working pattern.

But we want all our customers to enjoy access to the full flexibility that Zego’s cover offers. That’s why we’re delighted to announce that we’ve launched our new Flexible Private Hire insurance.

Flexible Private Hire insurance is designed especially for Uber driver-partners who carry out fewer hours of private hire work each week. If you work with Uber on a part-time basis, it could help you to save money compared to the cost of a fixed-term policy.

How does it work?

At the start of your policy, you pay one upfront fee. You are then covered for personal driving and private hire work for a period of 30 days. Depending on how many hours you spend on customer journeys during your policy, you will receive a refund at the end of your policy.

As the graph above shows, you will receive a refund at the end of your policy, which is calculated based on the total amount of time you spend on customer journeys over the course of 30 days.

What that means is that in months where you work fewer hours with Uber, you will pay less for your cover than you would with a standard insurance policy.

How do Zego work out how much you save?

Your Zego account is linked with your driver-partner account as part of your policy. We will then automatically calculate how much time you have spent on customer journeys over the course of your policy. This is the total amount of time you have spent from when you accept a job to the point where you drop the customer off at their destination.

How much money will I save?

Your saving depends on how many hours you work over the course of your policy. If you work fewer hours, your refund will be greater than if you work more hours.

With Flexible Private Hire insurance, your cover is charged in proportion with how much you work, helping you save money if you’re working less frequently.

What happens if my working hours increase?

If your working hours increase, there’s no need to worry. No matter how many Uber hours you work, we will never charge you any more for your cover. There’s no limit to how much you can work over the course of your policy, so you still have the flexibility to work as much as you like.

Depending on how much your working hours increase, you may receive a smaller refund at the end of your policy. If you plan to continue working more hours in future months, we may recommend that you switch back to a 30-day policy.
