Returning to work? Here's everything you need to know about your insurance

If you're ready to return to work, it's important to make sure you have the protection you need in place.

Due to the situation regarding COVID-19, many people have chosen to take some time away from work. Whether you’re a van courier, private hire driver or delivery worker, we know that this has been a difficult time. At Zego, we have continued to offer as much help and support as we can to all our customers.

Over the coming weeks and months, we know that many of you will be looking to return to the work that you were doing before. In this post, we’ll explain what this means for your insurance and what you need to do to make sure you have the protection you need for your work.

I cancelled or did not renew my insurance

If you do not have any insurance cover in place, you should have declared your car off road with a SORN notice. Before you take out insurance again, you will need to remove the SORN notice by taxing your vehicle.

If you took out temporary Social, Domestic & Pleasure with another company, you will need to speak to them to see if you can add the insurance required for your work onto your policy. Your standard, everyday insurance won’t cover private hire or delivery work, so you’ll need to make sure you have the protection you need.

I downgraded my insurance

If you’re a private hire driver and you downgraded your cover with Zego to a Social, Domestic & Pleasure only policy, you will need to upgrade your cover once again before you return to work.

You will not be charged any admin fees for upgrading your cover again, although the price of your cover will increase when you add private hire insurance onto your policy again.

I did not make any changes to my insurance

If you did not make any changes to your insurance during this time, then you do not need to do anything. If you have a 30-day or Annual policy, your cover will continue as normal unless you choose not to renew your insurance when it expires.

If you use Zego’s flexible pay-as-you-go cover, you will automatically be insured on your next shift with our partnered work-providing platforms. You do not need to do anything and your cover will continue to work just the same.
