Your drivers and your company reputation

We take a look at the impact of driver behaviour on your brand reputation.

As a fleet manager, adding your company’s logo and phone number to your vehicles is a great way to boost the visibility of your brand when your drivers are out on the road. But it’s important to keep in mind how every interaction your drivers have with other road users can have an impact on your overall brand reputation.

In this post, we’ll take a look at some of the key driving behaviours that can impact your company’s reputation and some top tips to pass onto your drivers. We’ll also show you how Zego Fleet insurance products work together with the ABAX solution to help you understand how your drivers are affecting your brand.

Which driving behaviours can damage your brand?

There are a number of ways that your vehicles can affect how your brand is perceived, both in terms of their appearance and how your drivers behave when they’re using them.

If other road users see your drivers using their mobile phone when they’re behind the wheel, or if they are seen to jump red lights, other road users may associate this kind of irresponsible behaviour with your brand name.

It’s also important to consider the appearance of your vehicles when they’re not in use. If they look dirty or damaged, or if there are visible defects or faults on them, you may inadvertently signal to potential customers that your company doesn’t prioritise safety.

If every driver in your fleet exhibits this kind of behaviour, damage to your reputation can add up quickly.

How can you help your drivers improve your reputation?

One of the best ways to help your drivers understand the importance of their driving style is to start a conversation with them. If they are aware of the kind of driving behaviours to watch out for, they’ll be less likely to commit them. An open dialogue may also help your drivers feel proud of their job and the brand they represent.

You can also explore the option of setting up policies for how often the vehicles need to be cleaned, or where the vehicles can be parked.

How can Zego help?

At Zego, we design insurance products to help save fleets time and money. We put the needs of your fleet business at the heart of our products, designing solutions that are tailored to you and offer you a price based on how much time your vehicles spend on the road, or how many miles they cover.

The ABAX solution helps power Zego’s usage-based policies by gathering data on the usage of your vehicles. When the ABAX device is installed in your vehicles, you can keep track of how long your vehicles are on the road and how much distance they cover. We then use this information to calculate the ‘flexible’ part of your premium.

But the benefits of installing the ABAX solution don’t stop there. By keeping track of how your drivers are navigating the road, you can unlock insights into the risk associated with your fleet and how other road users will respond to the way your vehicles are driven.

Please note, you will need to make sure your vehicles have an available power source for the ABAX solution and all vehicles must be fitted with an ABAX telematics device within 14 days of that vehicle being added to your policy.

When a driver adheres to best practices behind the wheel, they use less fuel, contribute fewer emissions and can have a positive impact on your brand reputation.
