Our guide on how to choose the scooter delivery insurance policy that's right for you.

When you’re starting out as a scooter delivery rider, you’ll need to make sure you have the correct insurance cover in place. You’ll need to make sure you have both Social, Domestic & Pleasure (SD&P) and Hire & Reward (H&R) cover in place to protect yourself for your work and your own personal use of your vehicle.

At Zego, we offer a range of options for scooter delivery riders to choose from. But we know that it’s not always easy to know which policy is right for you. In this post, we’ll help you work out which policy suits you best, so you can get food delivery insurance that’s right for you.

Pay-as-you-go cover

If you’re only looking to work part-time, you may wish to consider our pay-as-you-go H&R insurance. You pay £0.70 per hour for your cover, or £0.50 per hour if you also purchase your SD&P with Zego, and you’ll only pay for your delivery insurance when you’re actually working with any of our partnered work providers.

We’re partnered with a number of companies, including Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Just Eat, Stuart and many more, to help you get flexible food delivery cover that works when you do.

Don’t forget, to use our pay-as-you-go H&R cover, you’ll also need to have SD&P insurance in place, either with Zego or with another company. This is a legal requirement, even if you only want to use your scooter for your work.

30-day SD&P + H&R policy

If you’re looking for a short-term insurance solution that has all the cover you need to work as a food delivery or courier rider, our 30-day policies could be right for you. You get cover for your personal riding (SD&P) and your delivery work (H&R) for a period of 30 days.

You pay one upfront fee at the start of your policy and you can set your policy to renew automatically to get cover that lasts for as long as you need it. 30-day policies are a great alternative to an annual policy if you work full-time, but sometimes take certain months of the year off work.

Annual SD&P + H&R policy

If you’re a full-time food delivery or courier rider and you’re looking for a cost-effective insurance solution, you may be suited to an annual policy. You get cover that lasts for 12 months and you can pay upfront or split the cost over a series of monthly instalments.

It’s cheaper to buy an annual policy than to renew 12 consecutive 30-day policies, so if you’re looking for a longer term insurance solution, an annual policy may be perfect for you.
