Our top tips on what to consider before you purchase a courier van insurance policy.

Whether you’re just starting out as a van courier or you’ve been doing delivery work for a number of years, it’s important to have the right cover in place for your courier work. But when it comes to looking for courier van insurance, you may be wondering how to find the policy that’s right for you.

In this post, we’ll look at 5 important things to consider before you purchase your courier van insurance policy, so you can make sure you get the cover that’s right for you. We’ll also explain how you can get an estimated price for your cover with Zego in less than a minute!

Price

Often, the first thing that comes to mind when you’re looking for courier van insurance is how much it’s going to cost. It makes sense too. If you have two companies offering you the same cover for different prices, why should you spend more than you need to on your insurance?

However, it’s worth keeping in mind that choosing the policy with the lowest price isn’t necessarily your best option. The cheapest quote you can find may not include all the protection you’re looking for and it can end up costing you more in the long run.

At Zego, we know that comparing insurance quotes can be time-consuming. Download the Zego Delivery app and get a quote – it only takes a minute.

Level of cover

One of the most important things to consider on your search for courier van insurance is your policy’s level of cover. Your level of cover determines the amount of protection you get from your policy, so you should always make sure you’re getting cover for what’s important to you. Third Party Only insurance may be cheaper, but if you want to be protected for the theft of your van, then it’s important to choose a higher level of cover.

At Zego, we offer you the choice of Fully Comprehensive, Third Party, Fire & Theft or Third Party Only cover, so you can get as much protection as you need to feel safe.

What else is covered?

If you don’t find out what a policy covers before you purchase it, you won’t really know what you’re actually paying for. More importantly, your policy might not include protection for something that matters to you.

Many insurance companies offer you the chance to add optional extras to your policy. At Zego, we have a range of additional cover options for you to choose from, including Goods in Transit insurance and No Claims Discount protection.

Excess

Your policy’s excess is the amount of money that you need to pay towards the cost of any claim which you make on your policy. For example, if you make a claim for £600 and your excess is £400, you will pay the first £400 of the cost and your insurance company will cover £200 towards the overall cost of that claim.

If you have a high excess on your policy, you could end up having to pay a significant amount of money if you make a claim. So before you buy a courier van insurance policy, it’s worth finding out how much the excess is.

Public Liability insurance

Public Liability insurance protects you if a member of the public suffers an injury or property damage as a result of a non-motor incident. Your work as a courier driver may require that you have Public Liability insurance in place.

At Zego, all our courier van insurance policies include up to £5m Public Liability insurance cover, but you have the option to increase your amount to £10m.
