We’re introducing a new feature in the Zego Sense app: Vehicle linking.

If you’re a Sense policyholder, you’ll be prompted to connect your phone to your vehicle. It only takes a few moments, but it can improve the accuracy of your driver rating.

Why link your mobile device to your vehicle?

When your device is linked to your vehicle, it helps us tell whether you’re behind the wheel or just a passenger. That means a more accurate view of your driving behaviour, and ultimately, a driver rating that reflects your time on the road.

Better accuracy means fairer pricing.

Who can vehicle linking be helpful for?

If you’re a Sense policyholder, vehicle linking can help make your driver rating even more accurate. You’ll see a prompt in the app to get started after around five trips or 65 miles, whichever comes first.

It’s not essential, and your app will work just fine without it. But if you're aiming for the most accurate driver rating possible, linking your phone to your vehicle is a smart move.

How to link your phone to your vehicle

There are several ways to connect your phone to your vehicle. The best method depends on your device and vehicle:

  • Bluetooth: Switch on Bluetooth and pair your mobile device to your vehicle.
  • USB cable: Plug your mobile device into the vehicle's USB port.
  • Apple CarPlay or Android Auto: If your vehicle supports it, link via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to your mobile device.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use vehicle linking to get a driver rating?

No. Vehicle linking is optional and isn’t required to use Sense or receive a driver rating. It just helps us make that driver rating more accurate by knowing when you’re actually driving.

Will this feature use more of my mobile data or battery?

No. Vehicle linking is designed to work in the background without draining your data or battery.

Why does it need access to my Bluetooth or USB connection?

Connecting to your vehicle helps us know whether you’re the driver or a passenger, based on your phone’s connection to the car. This improves the accuracy of your driver rating.

What do you do with the data you collect?

We only use your data to improve the accuracy of your driver rating. We never sell your data to third parties, and we only collect what’s needed to make the feature work.
