Who are we and who is this Privacy Notice for?

We, Extracover Limited (referred to as “Zego, we, or us” in this privacy notice) of 7th Floor, Exchange House, 12 Primrose St., London, UK, EC2A 2BQ are committed to protecting your personal data and respecting your privacy.

This privacy notice  (together with our end-user licence agreement and any additional Terms of Use)applies to your use of:

  • Zego Sense - our Zego telematics mobile applications software app (“the app”) available on the Apple or Google Android App Store, once you have downloaded or streamed a copy of the app onto your mobile telephone or handheld device (“Device”).
  • Any of the services accessible through the app (“Services”) that are available on the App Store or other Zego sites(“Services Site”).

This privacy notice sets out how we will use the  personal data we collect from you through the Zego Sense app, or that you provide to us. This  privacy notice should be read alongside the Zego Customer Privacy Notice at https://www.zego.com/privacy/customers/


What data do we collect about you and how do we use it?

The information that we collect is analysed to understand:

  • your risk profile as a driver
  • To ensure compliance with the conditions of your Sense policy
  • Investigate claims
  • To create fairer pricing for you  that is more tailored to your potential risk as a driver.
  • To develop fairer pricing models for our insurance products.


The information we collect includes:

  • Identity Data: first name, last name, username, emails.
  • Device Data: the type of mobile device and operating system you use, a unique device identifier such as the  IMEI number and the MAC address of the Device's wireless network interface,timezone settings, bluetooth and wifi network details.
  • Profile Data: includes your username and password, in-app purchase history, your interests, preferences, feedback and survey responses.
  • Usage Data: includes details of your use of any of our apps or your visits to any of Our Sites including, but not limited to, traffic data and other communication data e.g. network data which is used to sync user trips to our systems.
  • Location Data (e.g. your device location through GPS).
  • Motion Data from your device’s sensors that measure the movement and orientation of your phone ( e.g. accelerometer data, gyroscope data, and magnetometer data).


We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to do so. Most commonly we will use your personal data in the following circumstances:

  • Where you have consented to the processing- such as your marketing preferences etc.
  • Where we enter or have entered into a contract with you - for example, if you have chosen a Sense policy, you will be required to download the Sense app and allow permission for Zego to assess driver risk and provide you with a risk score.
  • Where it is necessary for our legitimate interests - for example:- To improve our products, pricing and services- The prevention and detection of fraud- To process claims
  • Where we need to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation - sometimes the law tells us what we need to do with your data, including but not limited to, data relating to your policy or claims.

How is your personal data collected by us?

We will collect and process the following data about you:

Information you give us: It includes information you provide when you register to download and use the app, subscribe to any of our Services, search for an app or Service, and when you report a problem with an App, our Services, or any of Our Sites. If you contact us (e.g. through the app or by email, chat or telephones) we will keep a record of that correspondence. It is important that the personal data we hold about you is accurate and current. Please keep us informed if your personal data changes during our relationship with you.

Information we collect about you and your device: Each time you visit one of Our Sites or use one of our Apps we will automatically collect personal data including Device, Content and Usage Data as detailed in section 5 above. Zego might collect videos and photos (screenshots) via a third party company for the reporting of errors and improvement of user experience.

Location Data: We also use GPS technology to determine your location. Some of our location-enabled Services require your personal data for the feature to work. If you wish to use the particular feature, you will be asked to consent to your data being used for this purpose.

Information we receive from other sources: We may receive information from third parties and publicly available sources.


Will anyone else receive your data?

We share some of your data with third parties, with the purpose of delivering and operating our business, providing you with a good reliable service and good customer experience. For example, for:

  • Cloud infrastructure services used for data processing and storage (based within the EU)
  • Email delivery system service providers
  • Error logging services
  • Services that provide push notifications, app crash logging, analytics for troubleshooting
  • Web mapping services
  • Trip classification and driving insights services
  • Device data from analytics providers

Most of our services are in the EU. We have safeguards in place including contractual clauses to ensure where the data is processed outside of the EU the company meets the standards as required by the EU and UK law.

Third-Party Links
Our app may contain links to and from the websites of our partner networks, advertisers and affiliates. Please note that these websites and any services that may be accessible through them have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies or for any personal data that may be collected through these websites or services, such as Contact and Location Data. Please check their privacy policies before you submit any personal data to these websites or use their services.


How long do we keep data for?

We keep most of the data associated with your policy, including your telematics data and claims for 7 years.

We keep your personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes set out in this Privacy Notice and to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations. Where we can, we will minimise personal data or de-personalise it so we can use it for statistical or analytical purposes.

In some circumstances we will anonymise your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you and you cannot be identified) for research or statistical purposes, in which case we are able to use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.

If your policy with us expires but you continue to stay logged into the app and keep your permissions on, then we will continue to process telematics data from your device. If you do not want us to collect telematics data then you need to disable permissions or logout or delete the app from your device.


What are your rights?

At Zego we are committed to using your data in a transparent way. We also recognise your rights under the GDPR and relevant data protection laws.   • Request the transfer of your personal data to you or to a third party (data portability).
  • Where we use Automated Decision Making, ask us to use people instead of computers to review decisions made about you. For instance, if you think a decision is incorrect or unfair you can ask us to have a person review it.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time where we are relying on consent to process your personal data.
