When you’re looking to start working as a food delivery or courier driver, you’ll need to make sure you have the correct insurance cover in place first. The specific cover you need to have in place for delivery work is called Hire & Reward (H&R) insurance.

H&R cover protects you for additional activities that Social, Domestic & Pleasure (SD&P) insurance does not include. But we know that the first question on everyone's mind when they want to start food delivery or courier work is about how much they will be spending on insurance.

In this post, we’ll look at the different options you have available to help you work out how much your delivery insurance will cost.

What delivery insurance options do Zego offer?

At Zego, we offer a range of delivery insurance options, so whether you work full-time or for just a couple of hours per week, we have a policy for you. Riders who regularly work more than 25 hours per week may be better suited to a 30-day or annual policy. For rider working fewer than 25 hours per week, we recommend our pay-as-you-go insurance.

Zego is the only pay-as-you-go delivery insurance provider in the UK. For scooter riders, we charge £0.55 per hour if you have a Zego SD&P policy, or £0.75 in all other cases. For car drivers, our rates vary between £0.80 - £3.00 per hour.

With our pay-as-you-go insurance, you are charged just for the hours that you work. It’s easy to get started too! Just top up your account with £15 if you’re looking to insure your scooter or £25 for our car delivery insurance and you’re ready to go.

What affects the price of my insurance?

Different people will pay different amounts for their insurance. The reason that insurance costs vary is due to something called the underwriting process. This is where an insurance company looks at all the details you have provided, such as your age, the vehicle you have and where you live, and calculates a price for the cost of your cover.

If you have been referred to Zego by a friend, there is no guarantee that you will pay the same amount for your delivery insurance as they do.
